Herbs are often prescribed in conjunction with acupuncture
to strengthen the body, maintain and support the flow of Chi. The careful
prescription of herbs used in conjunction with diet, exercise and other
complementary alternative medicine treatments restores the body's balance,
strengthens the immune system and thus prevents disease. CMCC offers
its clients both Chinese and Western herbal formulas and uses organically
grown or wildcrafted herbs whenever possible. We do not use plants that
are endangered or threatened.
In Chinese herbal medicine, prescriptions are taken in powdered or
tablet form, either to nourish a deficient condition, or to clear
blockages and pathogens. Most formulas are of plant origin. While
some substances are obtained from animals, these can be avoided if
the patient prefers to take only plant products.
Western herbalism primarily utilizes plants native to North America.
Plants are ingested as teas, extracts, or flower essences. They can
also be used topically in the form of a salve, oil, or liniment.
