As we begin 2023 and the new lunar year, we look forward to the year of the Water Rabbit and we wish you all a year full of hope, peace and prosperity!
CLINICAL SERVICES
We continue to provide wonderful healing treatments for our clients and, as we welcome new volunteers, we are able to offer more services in 2023. In addition to our steadfast acupuncturists, massage therapists, homeopaths and Western herbalists, we’ve added yoga practitioners, a nutritionist, and many more energy workers. We also have Spanish and Cantonese interpreters on board to expand inclusivity in our services. When you come through our door, you may see new faces at the front desk: We’re so grateful to our volunteers who help run the clinic!
Charlotte Maxwell Clinic believes that the food you ingest daily is as important as any treatment you receive, if not more. We are developing a Food as Medicine program; we’ve partnered with local caterers and other food distributors to offer our clients healthy and nutritious prepared meals (in addition to the organic veggies provided by Full Belly Farm and the nourishing soups donated by volunteer extraordinaire Nancy Chang). We now distribute food from Purpose and Hope, Nibll, Vita Kitchen and Daily Bread during clinic so clients can have access to easy wholesome meals.
Our herbal pharmacy continues to expand, with donations from local Chinese herb manufacturer Mayway Corp. and renowned mycologist Paul Stamets’ mushroom supplement company Fungi Perfecti, in addition to other donation sources. Charlotte Maxwell clients receive supplements and herbs free of charge and as prescribed by our qualified practitioners.
PANDEMIC
As a clinic who works primarily with immunocompromised clients, Charlotte Maxwell’s commitment to providing a safe environment is of utmost importance. A good quality mask is required in the clinic at all times, and all staff and volunteers are vaccinated and boosted.
Our strict cleaning and ventilation/air filtration protocols that we instituted last year are still in effect. We use health screening with all staff, volunteers, and clients, and are prepared to administer rapid antigen tests as indicated. For most in-person appointments, we require that clients have their COVID vaccine and boosters.
UN-VACCINATED? NO BOOSTER? NO RIDE? NO PROBLEM!
We realize that a number of clients are not able to get our care due to our policies, so we continue to offer un-vaccinated and un-boosted clients in-person treatments on designated days. A rapid antigen test is administered to all staff, volunteers, and clients on these days, and it has been a resounding success!
For those who are not able to physically get to the clinic, CMCs group wellness classes continue to offer ongoing care. Folks can connect and benefit from qi gong and reiki group sessions on Zoom. Many of our practitioners also offer one-on-one telehealth as well.
COMMUNITY
Charlotte Maxwell Clinic is actively connecting with our community partners to provide our clients with the care they deserve. We have expanded our internship program with AIMC, where Master’s level acupuncture students provide community acupuncture for our clients. We offer this every Friday afternoon. Our partnership with Samuel Merritt University continues to grow. We are connecting CMC clients with their free Occupational Therapy clinic this winter and we have a senior Occupational Therapy student joining Charlotte Maxwell to complete her capstone project with us and offer Charlotte Maxwell clients more support in this modality. We have partnered with Stanford and community organization BLACC to provide more support and advocacy for our Black/African-American clients with breast cancer.
