Joyce van Ginkel
“The holistic healing approach to tending to mind, body, and spirit fosters a type of healing that transcends the patient and extends to families, to communities, and hopefully to future generations.”
Joyce van Ginkel works as the Client Services Specialist and Scheduler for the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic. She enjoys interacting with clients and working with the amazing staff and volunteers. Joyce was a Reiki volunteer for CMC for three years before becoming a staff member in 2019. Her years of being a volunteer heightened her appreciation and admiration for the clinic, and deepened her love and commitment to helping the clients. She is excited to be part of the healing mission of the clinic. In her spare time, Joyce loves to read, watch documentaries, and knit scarves.
Lisa Hartfield
“Providing free access to integrative services in a healing, holding, compassionate environment provides a transformative experience for women facing cancer. It is an honor to help CMC’s clients navigate their journey with less pain, greater strength, and increased resilience.”
Lisa Hartfield is the Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager for the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic. She has worked in both clinical and market research and has extensive experience with recruitment, evaluation, community education and outreach. Lisa’s strong belief in the importance of empowering diverse and often under-served communities led to her involvement in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion work and ultimately to the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic. Lisa finds serenity and balance hiking amongst the redwood trees in the East Bay Hills. She also loves travel, music, film, and the Golden State Warriors!
Mary Lynn Morales, LAc, DAIM
“There is no ‘cookie cutter’ approach to health. We are all unique, and our healthcare should be too.”
Mary Lynn Morales has been affiliated with CMC for 10 years. In May 2021 she was selected to serve as CMC’s medical director.
Mary Lynn is a licensed acupuncturist and doctor of acupuncture and integrative medicine. She has been in private practice in Berkeley, CA for over 20 years. She practices Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese herbal medicine, with a sub-specialty of functional medicine – that is, using nutritional and lifestyle interventions to assist in each person’s healing.
Mary Lynn earned a BA in Biology from UC Santa Barbara, MS in Traditional Chinese Medicine from American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco CA, and a Doctorate of Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine from the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley.
Mary Tran
“I am excited to join a dedicated team that empowers women with the confidence of having support every step of the way while providing a safe environment for physical, mental, and emotional relief.”
Mary Tran serves as the clinic assistant for the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic team. With a B.A. in Biology, she is passionate about providing empathetic care to the women in her community. To maintain balance in her life, she enjoys hiking with her dogs, walking along the beach, and singing.
Melbra Watts
“I love CMC because I get to see how holistic treatments help clients discover inner physical, mental, and spiritual resources to face, gracefully live with, and, in some cases, supersede their illness.”
Melbra Watts is a visionary leader and seasoned professional with extensive public and nonprofit experience in financial analysis, program management, and operational oversight. Melbra has worked for the Port of Oakland, John F. Kennedy University, and the Oakland Private Industry Council, where she was Chief Operating Officer. Always health conscious, she eventually shifted her focus to wellness and holistic development, participating in a number of projects and managing a private practice as an energy healing practitioner. Melbra became affiliated with the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic in 2013 as a volunteer practitioner. In 2017, she joined CMC’s Board of Directors and served as Board President prior to accepting the executive director position in 2020. Melbra has earned a BA in Social Welfare from U.C. Berkeley, an MBA in Management from Golden Gate University, and a professional competency Certification in Shamanic Energy Medicine from The Four Winds. Melbra enjoys writing, creating healthy vegetarian dishes, and walking the beach with her dog Sodapop.
Michelle Burns
“I’m really excited about joining the CMC team because it’s a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with empowered women in our community, focusing on improving health outcomes through integrative care.”
Michelle Burns has more than seven years of experience in various nonprofit roles throughout the Bay Area. She has worked across human resources, finance, and administration, including handling accounts payable and receivable, as well as training and development. She finds great fulfillment in supporting staff and employees and takes immense joy in contributing to our community’s growth and well-being. To bring balance into her life, she enjoys yoga, hiking, swimming, and coaching her kids’ flag football team.
Souad Elizzani
“I feel honored to be able to contribute to such a meaningful cause and I am enthusiastic about being part of a caring, passionate, and amazing team dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of women with cancer. I hope to bring satisfaction and power to our group of diverse, strong women.”
Souad Elizzani has previously worked as a Center Director for Planned Parenthood where she oversaw the overall development, management, and supervision of center staff and services at the designated health center site. She has also been in charge of the health center’s internal systems and personnel management, ensuring compliance with regional and state regulations and standards, as well as delivering a cost-effective operation while providing exceptional, responsive, patient-centered care. She has a B.S. degree in Health Science and Administrative/Management. To bring balance and express her creativity, Souad enjoys cooking for family and friends.
Tomiko Aguayo Pelayo

Tomiko Aguayo Pelayo assists as a client scheduler and program assistant and also provides interpreting for our Spanish-speaking community. Tomiko received her B.A. in Public Health and Spanish and is eager to provide exceptional care with empathy and understanding. To bring balance to her life Tomiko enjoys spending time with her dogs and being creative doing arts and crafts.

Alice Gandelman

“After having personal experience with cancer and being with other family members and loved ones with cancer, I know how important Integrative care is. Treatment can be difficult, and the complementary services offered at CMC are critical to healing and bringing us back to health. EVERYONE should have access to these important treatments.”
Alice Gandelman, MPH, is the former Director of the California Prevention Training Center (CAPTC) and currently acts as a consultant to the Center at University of California, San Francisco. She directed CAPTC from 1994 to 2021. Prior to directing CAPTC, Alice provided training and capacity-building services throughout the US and internationally (Africa and Asia) in HIV and STI prevention and care.
Her current focus is on integration of social determinants of health, structural interventions, and combination prevention approaches to improve prevention outcomes among persons who are at greatest need, but with limited or no access to services. Her recent work has included helping to strengthen the public health workforce for COVID-19 via related training and capacity-building.
She envisions an environment where health equity exists for all and is committed to supporting health professionals to achieve that vision in their respective communities.
Beth Parker

“I feel privileged to receive integrative care as part of my own cancer journey. It made an enormous difference in my ability to survive and thrive despite being diagnosed and receiving treatment during the pandemic. ”
Beth Parker is Founder and Principal of Parker Law & Mediation. She serves as the General Counsel of three Planned Parenthood affiliates and their Action Funds. From 2013 – 2018, she was Chief Legal Counsel of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California. Earlier, Beth was a partner at Arnold & Porter and at Bingham McCutchen in San Francisco and served as a mediator for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Beth has served as Chair of the Boards of Directors of Equal Rights Advocates, the Coro Center for Civic Leadership in Northern California, Performing Arts Services, the Women’s Leadership Alliance, and the San Francisco Women Lawyers Alliance. Beth speaks and teaches at conferences, law schools, and legislative hearings. She has a B.A. from Yale University and a JD from Harvard Law School. Beth has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 40 years and is an avid photographer, hiker, gardener, and cook.
Charlotte St. Clair Wilson

“I had been looking for a way to help other women with cancer following my own treatment for breast cancer. Having just moved back to the Bay Area, I was so excited when I learned of the work of CMC. I am passionate about supporting women through the harrowing cancer journey and providing a safe space with professional, compassionate care practitioners.”
Charlotte St. Clair Wilson is a lawyer and creative policy who has worked as the advisor to the Victorian Government (Australia) Commissioner to the Americas on trade and investment between Australia and the Americas region. Prior to that role, she was a senior legal advisor in the department of the Victorian State Premier and the Minister for the Creative Industries. She has also worked as an advocate and policy advisor in the entertainment sector with Australia’s peak body for the live performance industry. She founded the non-profit contemporary art space Cage me a Peacock and has served on the board of non-profit organizations supporting migrant women in the arts.
Charlotte was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia where she received the Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne. She now lives in the tiny town of Port Costa, CA with her husband, step-son and rescue dog, Soba.
Crystal Terry

“My grandmother taught me that joy is doing for others. It is my joy to join the board of Charlotte Maxwell Clinic. “
For the past 34 years Dr. Crystal Terry has provided anesthesia services for the people of the East Bay. The first 13 years of practice, Dr. Terry worked at Summit Hospital. Following that, she was the Chief of Anesthesia at Alameda Hospital for 13 years and the President of Island Anesthesia Associates. She studied at the Helms Medical Institute for Physician Acupuncture Training and practiced acupuncture in conjunction with her anesthesia and pain management practices. Her participation on not-for-profit boards of directors includes the Selam Foundation supporting international medical mission opportunities for medical students, Golden Pacific Home Health, Inc. providing a continuum of care for post-acute care patients, and Savage Jazz Dance Company, for which she was a founding board president. Dancing is one of Dr. Terry’s passions.
Dr. Terry received her Doctor of Medicine degree from UCLA and her AB from Harvard University. She currently resides in Berkeley with her wife, two doggies, Francie and Sammie, and her adult son who lives right down the street.
Delilah Sabba

I lost both my parents to cancer, my father to prostate cancer and my mother to an aggressive type of brain cancer. They were both fortunate to have access to good health care and supportive care. When becoming familiar with the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic, what first struck me was the care and comfort that is available to the vulnerable women they serve which would otherwise not be accessible to them
I am a Geologist by education and have worked in the environmental industry for the past thirty five years, as a consultant and now as part of SLAC’s Environmental Protection Department, involved in environmental remediation and protection of the facility.
Erin Harr Yee

“Low-income women have the least amount of access and resources to alternative treatment and support. At Charlotte Maxwell Clinic, women are provided with high-quality, compassionate, and caring integrative cancer care.”
Erin Harr Yee is currently the Deputy Director of the COVID Contact and Tracing Initiative with the Public Health Institute. She was appointed by California Speaker of the Assembly Anthony Rendon as a public member to serve on the Dental Hygiene Board of California. Previously, Erin was the Chief Operating Officer of Planned Parenthood Northern California. She has spent her career working in community health services and working for organizations that impact women and families. Erin was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii. She has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 37 years, but still considers Hawaii her home! She earned her B.S. in Non-Profit Management from the University of Hawaii. Erin’s favorite activities include reading, spending time in her garden, being with her family and friends, or going for a run with her favorite companion, her dog Bailey!
Jean Snider

Jean Snider has worked for Stanford University for over 20 years and is currently the Associate Director of Stanford Real Estate. Her responsibilities include asset management, leasing, development, and initiating and implementing long-term strategic investment plans. Jean earned a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley and an MBA in Real Estate Finance from Golden Gate University. She is committed to doing her part to help the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic continue its important legacy as it begins its fourth decade. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jean and her husband have two adult children.
Lynne Srinivasan

“I continue to be inspired by our community – clients, volunteers, and staff – and am ever so thankful to our founders who had the foresight and fortitude to create a safe space for comfort and healing for low-income women with cancer.“
Lynne Srinivasan is the immediate past president of CMC’s board of directors (May 2020 to December 2022). Under her tenure, despite multiple challenges navigating the COVID-19 crisis and during which clinic services were suspended for 19 months, Lynne brought in new board members, launched successful fundraising campaigns, celebrated CMC’s milestone 30-year anniversary along with the reopening of the clinic with expanded services for clients, and spearheaded the creation of a 3-year strategic plan. She now serves as the Chair of the CMC’s new Advisory Board where she will recruit members and lead projects.
Lynne has over 30 years of project management and team leadership experience in the environmental consulting industry. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Society from Vassar College and a master’s degree in Environment, Technology, Society from Clark University. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and Goldendoodle, Ellsworth.
Magdalena Palavecino

“CMC is revolutionary in their perspective towards wellness and healing. In a world where well-being is overmedicalized, integrative services act as the breathing room women need so true wellness and healing can take place.”
Magdalena was an external consultant to CMC in 2022, after which she knew she wanted to join the Board and continue her involvement with the clinic. She is currently a Financial Systems Analyst in the Corporate Budget & Fiscal Planning team at NYC Health & Hospitals, the nation’s largest municipal healthcare system. Previous to that, she spent some time at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center doing process improvement work in the Patient Financial Services Department. Throughout her career, Magdalena has also worked in epidemiological and molecular research, health IT, and healthcare communications. She is passionate about the intersection of science and society as the holistic approach to successfully tackling challenges in healthcare management.
Magdalena was born and raised in Santiago, Chile and earned her Masters in Health Administration from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and her Bachelors degree in Human Biology & Society from UCLA.
Maggie Burgett

“I appreciate the importance of caring for the whole patient, not just with traditional western medicine but with complementary therapies. I’m delighted to be part of the CMC community that provides services to low-income women who might not otherwise have access to holistic care.”
Maggie Burgett worked for Stanford University for over 30 years as a Project Executive in the Department of Project Management. Maggie managed the design and construction of dozens of buildings on the Stanford campus. Her projects included laboratories, offices, art buildings, and performance venues. Maggie retired in 2022.
As a Certified Healing Touch Professional, Maggie has volunteered with Healing Partners at Stanford Health Care since 2010, offering therapy to clients who are in active cancer treatment. She also recently completed Applied Compassion Training at the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford.
Maggie lives in Mountain View and enjoys hiking, reading, swimming, quilting, and traveling with her husband and children.
Poorvi Satya

“For me, integrative care is a reminder of the uniqueness of each individual. In conjunction with western medicine, I believe this holistic approach is critical to caring for the whole person.”
Poorvi Satya is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Healthcare Administration at Columbia University after having worked as an Operations & Clinical Program Lead at Promaxo, a medical device company in Oakland, CA. Her initial interest in healthcare stemmed from people in her community who have battled cancer and other illnesses. These experiences have driven her determination to work toward better, more equitable healthcare access for all, especially in the context of social determinants of health. Poorvi has had the privilege of working with a variety of service organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Association, Sevathon, and Health Leads. She was born and raised in the Bay Area and earned her undergraduate degrees in Systems Biology and Business Management from Case Western Reserve University.
